Pokhara is land of the Himalayas as many peaks calmly rest in this valley. Mountains such as Machhapuchhre in the Annapurna Himalayas, Manaslu and Dhaulagiri are some of the renowned range we can view from Pokhara. And for this precise reason, Pokhara is considered a gold mine for artists seeking inspiration from nature. Durga Baral is amongst the first artists to depict the beauty Pokhara valley holds. His watercolors decades ago of the scenic beauty of the valley laid a formidable foundation for the later watercolorists of the country. His unique style in watercolor is still being followed by many in Nepal. The artist is equally prolific in depicting important issues through visual narratives of various parts of Nepal in his works. From this sense, he is just as remarkable in conceptual artworks. Man with a few words, he is even more busy creating, whether it’s caricature art or painting, even in his late seventies, a true creative icon and inspiration for the upcoming generation.
