Govinda Sah ‘Azad’
Born in 1974 A.D. in Nepal, Govinda Sah ‘Azad’ showed a keen interest in art. Pursuing his dreams, during the nineties he went to India. There he struggled by doing some commercial artwork. However, he returned to Nepal around 1995 and joined the fine art campus to formally learn the art of painting. After the completion of his bachelor’s degree in fine arts, he left for Bangladesh for further studies. After a brief time there he went to the U.K. where he achieved his master's degree in fine arts from the Wimbledon College of Arts in the year 2008 A.D.
Numerous group shows to his credit, one of his significant solo exhibitions happened at the October Gallery in the year 2011 A.D. this was followed by various solo exhibitions aboard in countries such as London, New York the UAE, and Nepal.
After depicting human forms in vibrant colors and showcasing his emotion, once he got abroad, he introduced a new metaphor on his canvas to express his creativity- the clouds. Clouds with silver linings or clouds that were bleak and sometimes bright- represented hope. This climatic vapor intensified his creative understanding and maturity as he gradually shifted towards abstraction. His works were now both intellectual and emotional.
He won various accolades in arts early on. From district-level competitions organized by governmental and private organizations to various art activities organized by schools and universities, he has excelled in many of these events nationally and internationally. He has shown his works in countries like Bangladesh, the UK, Australia, the UAE, India, Switzerland, Estonia, and more.
