Krishna Gopal Ranjit (K G Ranjit)
A veteran artist born in the year 1932 A.D. in Pokhara, Krishna Gopal Ranjit is a selftaught artist. Starting working from a very early age, the artist has done twenty-plus solo exhibitions in Nepal, Japan, and Thailand. He has participated in numerous group art exhibitions such as the National art exhibition organized by NAFA, the art exhibition organized by Fuji Television of Japan, expo Japan 1970, etc. He has been facilitated by NAFA for outstanding contribution to the development of art, Felicitated by NewaKhala of Pokhara, won Rashtriya Prativa Puraskar (National Talent Award) 2004 A.D., Consolation prizes at the 7th and 10th National Art Exhibitions International Award from Fuji Television of Japan 2000 A.D., Ambassador for Peace, Universal Peace Federation 1997 A.D., Felicitated by the Commercial Artists' Association of Nepal, International Federation for World Peace S. Korea 2010 A.D. He has worked as a designer in the Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation (RNAC).
The artist says he got inspired by the landscape as a child and always wanted to feel nature in its purest form. That way he articulates that he felt truly and deeply alive. For this reason, he not only painted landscape but pioneered it. His artworks are sometimes hazy and quite often sunny landscapes of rural Nepal. His work inspired many back in those days because of which landscape paintings became popular. With that, the art market also flourished. Therefore, he is not only considered a pioneer in landscape painting, he is equally credited for marketing realistic art in Nepal.
His styles are also varied as he experiments with his techniques. One of his popular techniques besides commonly using acrylics and oil colors is that he made use of smoke in a very unique way to give his signature style. These smokey paintings became very popular amongst art admirers.
As he matured through art and discovered individual perspectives on life; he also did abstract paintings. This goes on to show the artist's commitment to not only depict nature but to become one with it.
Presently, he enjoys exploring his range of versatility as he is ever more active in all the varieties of styles he has mastered in painting. The artist remains one of the leading and iconic artists of Nepal.
